ItemDeleter Overview

Tired of waiting for Commence to delete items? Wish you had an undelete feature?

Item Deleter consists of two separate applications. One application deletes the items users have marked for deletion. The second application undeletes any marked item, which has not yet been deleted by the first application.

Use the Item Deleter system as a fault tolerant system for deleting items from Commence. Use the Item UnDeleter on the client machines to recover items marked for deletion, which have not yet been removed from the database. Run Item Deleter on the server, launched unattended by an agent, to actually remove the items from the database. Run Item Deleter nightly or weekly depending on the volume of items marked for deletion.

Item Deleter works by creating virtual dde views, filtered for only items with the assigned checkbox checked, of all categories in the active database, then deletes the items.

To implement the Item Deleter system, add a checkbox to all categories (Item Deleter is set for “Delete” by default), which is to be used to identify items for deletion. You may filter all views to not show items marked for deletion.

Items are removed from views immediately and then truly deleted from the database by Item deleter. This establishes a fault tolerant system, allowing for item recovery any time between the item being marked for deletion, and the running of Item deleter.
